88 YEARS AGO IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS

Editor’s note: Every day, The Denver Gazette reprints some of the best front pages of the Rocky Mountain News as pulled from its 100-plus-year archives.

One would figure that a 1934 article about a 14-yearold girl graduating from high school might not age well. But seriously!

“It seems singular that a 14-year-old girl whose visual appeal is such as would readily admit her to the Wampas Club — an organization of adolescent screen beauties — should be the possessor of enough gray matter to be graduating from high school at an age when others are fumbling with 9th grade English and stumbling thru the labyrinths of Latin grammar.”

“She ought to get a diploma for decorative reasons alone.”

Honestly. She is just 14. And the Wampas Club sounds a bit creepy.
