#Boulderstrong Resource Center moving to new facility

The Boulder Resource Center that was established in the wake of a mass shooting at a King Soopers in south Boulder in late March will be moving to a new permanent location this weekend.

Currently, the resource center is inside of a Chase Bank at 603 S. Broadway, adjacent to the store where the shooting took place. It will close Friday, and move to a permanent facility at 2935 Baseline Road on Saturday, according to a release.

The new center is managed by Mental Health Partnerships, King Soopers and other organizations contributing funds to its operations that include counseling and mental health services for those impacted by the March 22 massacre.

“The new center is better-designed for long-term, one-on-one counseling services,” said Mental Health Partnership Incident Commander Table Mesa Incident Kevin Braney.

Braney added the main issue the current location has is it shares the same parking lot as the King Soopers and relocating will ease those who can’t even look at the store, and is more accessible for the entire community.

“This center is right on the bus route between a major residential apartment complex for the university and the main campus, so we envision this as potentially being a safe place for students who are experiencing issues,” he said.

The site will remain open for the foreseeable future to continue offering services to those traumatized by the shooting by offering acupuncture, massage therapy and dog therapy, according to the release.

Similar sites were established in the wake of other mass shootings such as the Aurora Strong Resiliency Center in July 2012. It closed in 2019 and has been referring patients to the 7/20 Memorial Foundation since.
